99 App is building an ethical/sharia digital money account for the UK market.

Our mission is to give individuals a transparent, fair, and values aligned way to manage their money through transparent infrastructure, responsible financial design, and community aligned financial features.

The company will launch initially as an EMI agent, while building toward full regulatory authorisation in the future.

We are currently in the early build phase. The leadership team is already established across product, compliance, marketing, and partnerships. A prototype of the mobile application has been developed and we are in discussions with key partners while preparing our first fundraising round.

An engineering hub is being established in Egypt, where the backend engineering team will be based.

The CTO will lead the technical direction of the company from London while overseeing the engineering organisation across both locations.

We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to lead the development of the 99 platform.

The role is based in London, working closely with the leadership team while overseeing the backend engineering team located in Egypt.

You will define the architecture of the platform, establish engineering standards, and guide the development of the engineering organisation as the company grows.

You will lead the Egypt backend team, including defining architecture decisions, supporting hiring, and ensuring the engineering organisation is built with strong technical standards from the start.

This role combines platform architecture, engineering leadership, and organisational development.

As the company is currently at the early build stage and in active discussions with investors, the position begins with equity participation, with a full salary commencing once the current fundraising process is completed.

Design the core architecture of the 99 platform, including the systems responsible for account infrastructure, transaction processing, and integrations with banking and payment partners.

Ensure the platform is built with reliability, scalability, and regulatory expectations in mind from the start.

Define how balances, transactions, and financial records are represented within the system.

Design the architecture required to reconcile customer activity with our EMI principal and payment providers.

Ensure the platform maintains a secure and auditable financial record.

Implement a zero access development model where engineering teams build and test systems without direct exposure to customer data.

Ensure strong infrastructure security practices including encryption, access control, and secure infrastructure design.

Ensure the platform aligns with GDPR and financial regulatory expectations.

Lead the development of the company’s engineering organisation.

The CTO will oversee the backend engineering hub based in Egypt, including:

/guiding the technical direction of the team

/Defining architecture and engineering decisions

/mentoring engineers and technical leads

/supporting hiring decisions and evaluating engineering candidates

/ensuring high engineering standards and development practices

You will work closely with the Egypt Business Head to grow the engineering hub and ensure strong collaboration between London leadership and the engineering team.

Serve as the technical authority for the company in discussions with:

/infrastructure providers

/banking and payment partners

/auditors and compliance stakeholders

/investors during technical due diligence

Translate product requirements into clear technical roadmaps.

We are looking for someone who has experience building real systems and leading engineering teams, ideally within fintech or other regulated environments.

You likely have:

Experience in payments, banking, fintech, or financial infrastructure is highly valued.

You should be comfortable working across both technical architecture and engineering leadership.

This is a early level leadership role with equity.

Salary will begin following the company’s first funding round.
