About the Role

Chief Technology Officer

Abraham Joshua Heschel School is currently seeking a Chief Technology Officer to join our team.

The Chief Technology Officer is responsible for developing and implementing the school’s vision for technology. This position oversees all technology systems, ensures strong support for faculty, staff, and students, and aligns technology initiatives with the school’s mission and educational philosophy.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive technology plan aligned with the school’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the school’s technology thought partner to the Head of School and leadership team.
  • Ensure all technology decisions support teaching, learning, student well-being, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and recommend opportunities for innovation.


Instructional Technology

  • Partner with academic leadership to support technology integration in classrooms.
  • Oversee the convergence of pedagogy and technology infrastructure, ensuring all technological initiatives advance the school's mission.
  • Guide the development of school-wide cultural norms regarding technology use, prioritizing student learning and digital citizenship.
  • Direct the long-term strategy for faculty professional development and digital fluency.


Technology Operations and Infrastructure

  • Oversee all IT systems including networks, servers, classroom A/V, Chromebooks, Apple devices, Google Workspace, and Student Information Systems (e.g., Veracross).
  • Ensure reliable operation, security, and regular maintenance of all systems and hardware.
  • Lead technology purchasing, inventory, and lifecycle management.
  • Supervise the technology support team, ensuring timely and effective service.


Data Management and Information Systems

  • Oversee the school’s data governance, access, and privacy practices.
  • Direct the administration and optimization of key systems including Veracross, Google Workspace, and communication tools.
  • Ensure data accuracy and smooth workflows across academic, business, and operational departments.


Cybersecurity and Risk Management

  • Develop and maintain the school’s cybersecurity strategy, including prevention, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Implement security protocols for users, devices, and data.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and best practices around data protection.


Communication and Collaboration


  • Serve as a visible, accessible partner to faculty, staff, and students regarding technology needs.
  • Clearly communicate changes, updates, and expectations related to technology use.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to ensure technology supports school operations and culture.


Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, but an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Significant experience in educational technology and IT leadership, preferably in an independent school setting.
  • Demonstrated success managing teams, complex systems, and major technology initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Google Workspace, Apple environments, Chromebooks, and school information systems (Veracross preferred).
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of an independent school community.
