About the Role
Chief Technology Officer
Location: Perth, Western Australia
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Scope: End to End Technology Strategy, Architecture, Platform Integrity and Technical Governance
Role Purpose
The Chief Technology Officer owns Acova’s end to end technology strategy.
The role ensures the hardware, firmware, AI models, SaaS platform and data architecture operate as one coherent, scalable technology ecosystem aligned to Acova’s commercial strategy.
The Chief Technology Officer ensures that technology architecture, innovation velocity and release
discipline support security, reliability and global scalability.
Strategic Context
Acova is a joint venture established to commercialise AI powered visual analysis technology developed
in collaboration with CBH and Deimos. The business is transitioning from anchor deployment to national and global scale.
This requires:
• Tight hardware / software integration
• Scalable edge to cloud architecture
• Industrial grade reliability
• Coordinated partner execution
• Structured technical governance
• Continuous model improvement and defensibility
The CTO ensures disciplined technology evolution as the company scales nationally, internationally and across commodities.
Operating Model
1. THE CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER:
• Owns the integrated technology roadmap
• Defines architectural standards and technical guardrails
• Governs release discipline across hardware, firmware and AI
• Aligns strategic partner technical roadmaps to Acova priorities
• Ensures cybersecurity, compliance and data integrity standards
• Is accountable for end to end technology coherence
2. THE CEO:
• Sets overall business and commercial strategy
• Sets pricing strategy
• Sets gross margin targets
• Owns financial outcomes
3. STRATEGIC PARTNER FOR HARDWARE RETAINS EXECUTION AUTONOMY OVER:
• Hardware R&D
• Manufacturing engineering
• Internal engineering teams
4. STRATEGIC PARTNER FOR SOFTWARE AND AI RETAINS EXECUTION AUTONOMY OVER:
• Firmware, AI and SaaS R&D
• Internal sprint execution
The CTO governs alignment, integration standards and platform coherence without assuming direct
operational control of partner engineering teams.
Core Responsibilities
1.Technology Strategy
• Define and maintain a 3-5 year integrated technology roadmap
• Align hardware, firmware, AI and SaaS evolution
• Prioritise initiatives that increase defensibility and scalability
• Drive expansion into new commodities and regions
2. Architecture and Systems Design
• Define architectural principles across edge, device and cloud
• Ensure secure data pipelines and model lifecycle governance
• Maintain strict versioning discipline across hardware and firmware
• Establish integration standards across partner systems
3. Release and Engineering Governance
• Establish formal release gates across hardware and software
• Implement regression and validation frameworks
• Align milestone timing across partners
• Own technology version control and lifecycle management
4. AI and Data Leadership
• Oversee model governance and retraining frameworks
• Ensure data quality, classification integrity and performance benchmarks
• Drive continuous model improvement and defensibility
• Define scalable data architecture to support global network growth
5. Partner Orchestration
• Align partner technology roadmaps with Acova strategic priorities
• Resolve cross entity trade-offs
• Maintain structured Technical Council cadence
• Ensure customer commitments are technically achievable
6. Technology Quality and Scalability
• Define performance and reliability benchmarks
• Ensure industrial robustness and environmental resilience
• Align scaling plans with international growth
• Govern cybersecurity, ISO 27001 readiness and data compliance
Year 1 Priorities
• Establish formal technology governance framework
• Integrate partner roadmaps into a unified technology plan
• Strengthen release discipline and version control
• Define next generation platform architecture
• Formalise AI model governance and retraining standards
• Strengthen cross entity accountability and integration standards
Experience Required
• 5+ years in hardware enabled technology platforms
• Experience leading complex AI enabled systems
• Background in device + cloud ecosystems
• Experience operating across partner or joint venture environments
• Strong systems thinking and architectural capability
• Executive level communication capability
