About the Role

To enable the next phase of digital maturity and enterprise agility, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) role has been established for Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament. Reporting to the Executive Director, this executive leadership position will provide unified strategic oversight across core technology domains, including the Information Technology and Software Engineering & Data Analytics departments, and will help influence and shape the evolution of the Club’s digital capabilities and platforms in partnership with other business units.

The CTO will align technology strategy with business priorities, ensure the effective delivery of technology resources and services across the organization, and establish technology as a core driver of enterprise value by enabling teams to perform their responsibilities as effectively and efficiently as possible. This role will be responsible for harnessing emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and automation, to drive innovation, strengthen organizational decision-making through data, and enhance operational efficiency across the enterprise.
Job Responsibilities

Across all responsibilities, the CTO will build upon the strengths of existing teams, honoring what has been accomplished while setting a clear, compelling vision for how technology can continue to advance the organization in the future.

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Establish and drive a cohesive enterprise technology strategy spanning operational IT, engineering and data analytics, digital platforms, and AI-enabled capabilities, with a strong emphasis on reliability, security, and scalability.
  • Build upon the strengths of existing teams and leaders, recognizing the foundation that exists today while articulating a forward-looking technology vision that enables the organization to grow, adapt, and operate with confidence.
  • Ensure technology resources, services, and platforms are designed and delivered as trusted enterprise services that help teams across the organization perform their responsibilities as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Maintain awareness of external technology trends, vendors, and industry practices, applying disciplined judgment to determine what is relevant, practical, and valuable for the organization.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to the Executive Leadership Team on technology trends, risks, opportunities, and responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including AI, while partnering closely with leaders across the organization, within established accountability structures, on risk management and technology-enabled initiatives.
Information Technology
Provide leadership to Information Technology as a trusted enterprise partner that enables reliable, secure, and scalable technology services while supporting innovation and enterprise-wide value creation. The IT department comprises the following teams:

  • IT Operations
  • IT Security & Compliance
  • Business Applications
  • Project Management Office (PMO)
Software Engineering & Data Analytics
Lead and further develop the Club’s software engineering and data capabilities through strong governance, modern infrastructure, and talent development to enable actionable insights and effective delivery. This department comprises the following teams:

  • Development Operations (DevOps)
  • Data Operations
  • Insights & Analytics
Additional Digital Platforms and Product Capabilities
Provide enterprise-level leadership and strategic guidance for the Club’s digital platforms and product-oriented capabilities, emphasizing user-centered design, integrated delivery, and continuous improvement of digital experiences. The CTO will partner closely with business and technology leaders, including broadcast, media, and digital experience teams, to help evaluate solutions, architectures, and roadmaps where technology is a critical enabler.

Transformation & Integration

  • Lead cross-functional integration of technology capabilities, aligning in-house and external teams to shared business goals while improving clarity, coordination, and efficiency, and respecting the deep domain expertise that exists across the organization.
  • Support enterprise evolution by modernizing legacy systems, scaling data usage, and embedding modern engineering and product-oriented practices across departments.
  • Ensure an effective balance of internal and external resources to support internally developed platforms, software, processes, and digital experiences, while promoting long-term sustainability and knowledge continuity.
Governance & Operations

  • Define and execute the enterprise technology vision and multi-year roadmap in alignment with organizational goals, supported by clear governance, delivery approaches, and ways of working, with a strong focus on connectivity, resiliency, and critical system uptime.
  • Champion information security, cybersecurity resilience, data protection, and privacy practices across the enterprise, in close partnership with legal, compliance, risk management, and business leadership.
  • Establish governance frameworks, technology standards, and best practices that support secure, reliable, and well-integrated systems.
Talent & Culture

  • Bring together existing teams into a cohesive, high-performing technology organization; identify capability gaps and recommend resources to support current and future needs.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop talent across related disciplines, building leadership depth and succession readiness.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, operational excellence, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Serves on other committees and boards as required.

Physical Demands

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
  • Occasionally required to walk and work with hands and arms, lift up to 25 pounds and/or drive a golf cart.
  • Constantly required to sit, sometimes for several hours at a time, and use their hands and fingers to operate a computer.

Qualifications:

Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:

  • Deep, practical technical background spanning multiple disciplines, combined with the ability to lead across infrastructure, security, data, engineering, applications, and digital domains.
  • Demonstrated success leading large, diverse technology organizations and influencing outcomes across functions beyond direct reporting lines.
  • Proven experience partnering with executive peers and stakeholders on risk management, cybersecurity, data protection, and operational resilience.
  • Track record of building upon strong existing teams while setting a clear vision for future-state capabilities and enterprise maturity.
  • Experience delivering and operating mission-critical, highly available systems with best-in-class connectivity and uptime requirements.
  • Demonstrated success aligning technology strategy with business outcomes in complex, highly visible, mission-critical environments, with a reputation for steady, thoughtful leadership.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and change management skills.
Relative Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including senior executive roles at enterprise scale with broad scope and complexity, and a demonstrated ability to lead through influence, partnership, and credibility.
Required License(s):

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully complete the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program
Projected Work Schedule:

Normal work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
