About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Fractional Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the technological vision of an AI-powered medical imaging company focused on advancing diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making. This role requires deep, hands-on experience with CT and MRI imaging, alongside expertise in AI development for medical applications. You will provide strategic oversight, guide product and platform development, and ensure alignment with clinical, regulatory, and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the company’s technology strategy across AI imaging platforms, with a focus on CT and MRI-based solutions.
  • Lead the design, development, and validation of AI/ML models for CT and MRI data, ensuring clinical accuracy, robustness, and scalability.
  • Apply hands-on expertise in CT/MRI imaging physics, acquisition protocols, and image reconstruction to inform product development.
  • Oversee development of systems for image ingestion, processing, and deployment across clinical environments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including MHRA, FDA, CE marking, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and GDPR.
  • Guide clinical validation strategies, including dataset curation, annotation workflows, and benchmarking for CT/MRI applications.
  • Support fundraising efforts through technical due diligence and clear articulation of imaging and AI capabilities.
  • Establish best practices for MLOps, data governance, and audit readiness in imaging-heavy workflows.
  • Mentor internal AI, engineering, and clinical teams; recruit and manage external experts as needed.
  • Advise on interoperability with hospital systems (PACS, RIS, EHR), particularly for CT/MRI integration.
  • Provide regular strategic updates to the CEO and leadership team.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Proven experience as a CTO or senior technical leader in AI medical imaging, digital health, or medtech.
  • Hands-on experience working with CT and MRI data, including image reconstruction, processing, or clinical application development.
  • Strong track record of deploying AI/ML models in medical imaging, particularly for CT and/or MRI use cases.
  • Deep understanding of imaging standards and ecosystems (e.g., DICOM, PACS integration).
  • Experience navigating regulatory pathways for AI-based medical devices (SaMD).
  • Expertise in cloud infrastructure, scalable data pipelines, and MLOps frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with radiologists and clinical teams.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or a related field.

Engagement Structure
  • Consultancy contract (fractional): typically 1–2 days per week or milestone-based engagement.
  • Flexible, remote-first working model with periodic team and stakeholder meetings.
  • Compensation aligned with experience, scope, and strategic impact.

Personal Attributes
  • Strategic thinker with strong hands-on technical and imaging expertise.
  • Able to bridge the gap between AI development, imaging science, and clinical application.
  • Passionate about improving patient outcomes through advanced diagnostic technologies.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced, early-stage environments.
