Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for company’s innovation, guiding the strategy, planning, and execution of new product development, technology, and process improvements to maintain a competitive edge. This role ensures that Katalyst remains at the forefront of digital transformation, subsurface data management, and cloud-based solutions for the energy sector. The CTO will lead global research and development (R&D) teams, innovative initiatives, and product development to deliver scalable, secure, and cutting-edge technology solutions aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive technology roadmap aligned with Katalyst’s business strategy and growth objectives.
- Identify emerging technologies and market trends to drive innovation and maintain competitive advantage.
- Advise the CEO and executive team on technology investments, risks, and opportunities.
- Operate effectively across software and infrastructure environments, including cloud, on‑premises, hybrid systems, compute, storage, networking, and bare metal platforms.
Innovation & Product Development
- Lead and oversee research and development (R&D) initiatives to create innovative solutions for subsurface data management and digital transformation.
- Champion a culture of creativity, experimentation, and continuous improvement across all technology teams.
- Ensure timely delivery of new products and enhancements that meet client needs and industry standards.
- Embed security, compliance, and risk management into architecture and development from the start.
- Apply strong judgment in deferring lower‑value feature requests to prioritize work that drives customer value and pricing power.
Client & Market Engagement
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to align technology offerings with client requirements and industry trends.
- Represent Katalyst at industry conferences, forums, and client meetings to showcase technology leadership.
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and mentor a high-performing technology organization, including software engineering and product development.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration between R&D, operations, and commercial teams.
- Lead a disciplined operating framework with automated reporting, resource and throughput metrics, burndown tracking, and clear accountability for run and build work.
- Bring rigor to startup‑style functions and agility to legacy functions to create a unified Katalyst culture with shared standards and ways of working.
- Unite geographically separate development teams to collaborate and share information to improve productivity and results.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as CTO or senior technology leader in a global organization, preferably within energy or data management sectors.
- Expertise in web technologies, data governance, and enterprise software development.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects and drive innovation in a fast-paced environment.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles, including product development and innovation management.
- Proven track record in driving digital transformation, cloud-based solutions, and subsurface data management within the energy sector.
- Global leadership experience, managing large, geographically dispersed R&D and technical teams.
- Expertise in strategic planning and execution, with demonstrated success in aligning technology initiatives to business objectives.
- Strong collaboration skills, working closely with executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in innovative frameworks, including idea generation, evaluation, and commercialization of technology solutions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Chief Technology Officer is responsible for leading global research and development (R&D) teams, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and innovation goals. This includes oversight of the team, product development, technology initiatives, and process improvements.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office setting and routinely uses standard office equipment including computers, phones, and presentation tools.
Physical Demands:
The role involves primarily sedentary activities, though it may require occasional lifting, bending, sitting, and standing as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. As a full-time position, the Chief Technology Officer is eligible to participate in the regional benefits offered to Katalyst employees.
Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Travel:
The Chief Technology Officer may be required to travel to attend client meetings, strategic planning and attend conferences. Travel varies; however, it could include local, regional, national or international as dictated by client and business needs.
