We are now seeking an experienced Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Orion Health to lead our technology organisation into its next phase of modernisation, innovation, and AI-enabled growth; exclusively accountable for technology strategy and execution.

The opportunity
As CTO of Orion Health, you will be a visible ambassador for our technology vision, strengthening our reputation as a challenger with something important to say.
You will be accountable for our end-to-end technology strategy and execution, leading our large, highly capable engineering function and playing a critical role in modernising our platforms, accelerating AI adoption, and ensuring our technology roadmap is tightly aligned with product outcomes and customer value.
You will also work closely with technology and AI leaders within our parent company, HEALWELL AI, including Canadian-based teams, to leverage advanced AI capabilities and integrate them into Orion Health’s platforms where appropriate.
Success will require a strong product mindset — partnering deeply with Product, Clinical, and Commercial leaders to ensure technology investments directly enable market-leading healthcare solutions.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Technology vision & strategy. Define and execute a clear, future-focused technology strategy for Orion Health, aligned to its product roadmap and commercial objectives.
- Platform modernisation. Lead the evolution of Orion Health’s platforms towards modern cloud-native, API-driven, and data-centric architectures, balancing innovation with operational resilience.
- AI integration & innovation. Drive responsible AI adoption within Orion Health’s products, collaborating with HEALWELL AI’s Canadian teams where strategically beneficial, while maintaining architectural and operational ownership locally.
- Product-aligned engineering. Ensure engineering teams are outcome-oriented, customer-focused, and tightly integrated with product management and design.
- Technology leadership in New Zealand. Lead and scale high-performing engineering teams primarily based in New Zealand, strengthening local capability, culture, and execution excellence.
- Security, privacy & compliance. Uphold the highest standards of security, privacy, and regulatory compliance across Orion Health’s technology platforms.
- Executive leadership. Act as a core member of the Orion Health executive team, contributing to company-wide strategy and representing technology at board level.
- Thought leadership. Represent the company on the world stage, engaging with senior stakeholders across governments, health systems, and industry forums to influence the future direction of healthcare technology.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience as a CTO, VP Engineering, or senior technology leader in complex, enterprise-grade software environments.
- Strong background in modern software engineering, cloud platforms, data architectures, and distributed systems.
- Demonstrated success leading significant technology modernisation initiatives.
- Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production software platforms.
- A product-led mindset
- Experience operating in regulated or mission-critical domains.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and scale senior technical teams.
- Auckland-based, or willing to relocate, with a genuine commitment to building and leading teams locally.
