Position Summary
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is a member of Sensys Gatso Group Management reporting directly to the Group CEO. The position is a key executive leadership role, responsible for defining, refining, and executing the company's global technology strategy, roadmaps, and architectural vision. The CTO will oversee all technology disciplines—including product development, engineering (hardware and software), and IT infrastructure—ensuring alignment with the company's business objectives, driving innovation, and maintaining technological competitive advantage. This role requires a proven leader with deep technical subject matter expertise and exceptional resource management skills, capable of steering a multi-disciplinary technology organization.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Vision
- Define and communicate a clear, long-term technology strategy and roadmap that supports the company’s growth, global expansion, and business goals.
- Lead the identification, evaluation, and integration of new emerging technologies relevant to traffic enforcement, smart cities, and integrated hardware/software/service solutions.
- Drive innovation across product lines, ensuring our solutions remain cutting-edge and meet evolving market demands.
Leadership & Management
- Provide executive leadership and mentorship to the global Product, Engineering (Hardware and Software), and IT teams.
- Manage technology budgets, resources, and staffing to ensure efficient delivery of projects and strategic initiatives.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Product & Engineering Execution
- Oversee the entire product lifecycle management (PLM) process, from ideation and R&D through development, deployment, and end-of-life.
- Direct the combined engineering efforts for integrated hardware, software, and service solutions, ensuring seamless and robust delivery.
- Guide the development teams in implementing best practices in software development, architecture, and quality assurance.
- Ensure excellence in hardware engineering, focusing on reliability, manufacturing efficiency, and future-proofing the physical technology base.
IT, Security, and Compliance
- Oversee IT infrastructure and systems (both internal operations and client-facing solutions), including management of on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
- Establish and enforce world-class cybersecurity protocols and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, local regulatory requirements) across all products, services, and internal systems.
- Ensure operational resilience, data integrity, and high availability of critical technology systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with the Group’s Extended Management Team to translate business objectives into technology initiatives.
- Collaborate with Sales and Operations to ensure successful deployment and servicing of technology solutions to clients globally.
- Experience and Subject Matter Expertise
- The ideal candidate will have significant experience and subject matter expertise across all the following disciplines:
- Hardware Engineering
- Proven experience leading the design, development, testing, and manufacturing/assembly of complex, specialized electronic and mechanical hardware components.
- Software Development
- Extensive background in leading large-scale software development, including cloud-native architectures, embedded systems, data processing, and modern development methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps).
- IT Infrastructure & Systems
- Deep knowledge of managing global IT infrastructure, including enterprise systems, network architecture, and both on-premises and significant cloud deployment models for internal and client-facing services.
- Cybersecurity and Compliance
- Expertise in developing and implementing robust security strategies, data protection standards, and navigating international regulatory compliance mandates.
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
- Experience in managing technology products from concept through market launch, continuous iteration, and retirement, optimizing for profitability and customer satisfaction.
- Integrated Solutions
- Demonstrated ability to successfully integrate and deliver combined hardware, software, and service solutions in a complex B2G or B2B environment.
- R&D Leadership
- Track record of leading R&D teams, managing innovation portfolios, and successfully transitioning nascent technologies into commercially viable products.
- Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in technology leadership roles, with at least 5 years as a CTO, VP of Engineering, or equivalent senior technology executive.
- A master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Proven ability to operate effectively within a European business context and manage global technology operations.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including the Board of Directors.
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Swedish or Dutch is preferred.
- Residency in Sweden or the Netherlands is preferred.
